Coral Springs Festival of the Arts is excited to be returning to the Walk on University Drive on March 19 and 20 from 10 AM to 5 PM with 200 artists and crafters, music, performing arts, a children’s area and Gardenfest.
The Festival will open Friday evening with a special literary event at The Coral Springs Center for the Arts, 2855 Coral Springs Drive at 6:30 PM. Come participate in—or just enjoy—a very special evening with Dr. Caren Neile, NPR’s Public Storyteller and Gayle Ross an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation and a direct descendant of John Ross, Principal Chief of the Cherokee during the infamous “Trail of Tears”. Her grandmother told stories and it is from this Native American heritage Gayle’s storytelling springs. During the past twenty-five years she has become of the best-loved and most respected storytellers to emerge from the current surge of interest in this timeless art form. Dr. Caren Neile will speak to the art of storytelling and about her latest book, Peninas World: A Jewish Life in Stories. Gayle Ross will relate “The Three Brothers Journey “, a uniquely Cherokee version of an epic hero’s journey tale. With your attendance at the Friday night event you can put your name in the hat to tell your own true, five minute “only in Florida: story and compete for a free book and cash prize on Saturday, March 19 at 11: 00 AM on the performing arts stage at The Coral Springs Festival of the Arts.
The Festival will continue over the weekend with musical groups Steve Pomerantz Band-Jazz and light rock, Shadow Creek-classic rock, Simply Tina-a Tina Turner tribute band, The Last Flight Out Big Band-40s and 50s music, Whiskey Six – country, and Son Saledad – Latin band. The performing arts stage will host Drake Irish Dancers, Gold Coast Banjo Band, South Florida Jubilee, Oceanik Steel Drum Band, Tam Leas Polynesian Show, Marinera En El Mundo -Peruvian Dance Group, Ronin Taiko Drummers, America Dances- an historical perspective of the history of dance, and the Dixie Players-9 Dixie Land Band.
Bring your children to bubble wrap dance, watch a puppet show, or design a tee. Buy art for both the inside and outside of your home. Visit the artists and crafters and then stop at Gardenfest for nature’s beautiful plants.
The Coral Springs Festival of the Arts is free to all and has free shuttles from off-site parking. It is handicapped accessible and there is ample handicapped parking.
